Local Sustainable Food Resources

What is Sustainable Agriculture?

Sustainable agriculture is one that produces abundant food without depleting the earth’s resources or polluting its environment.

The primary goals of sustainable agriculture include:

  1. Providing a more profitable farm income

  2. Promoting environmental stewardship, including:

  3. 1.Protecting and improving soil quality

  4. 2.Reducing dependence on fossil fuels,  synthetic fertilizers and pesticides

  5. 3.Minimizing adverse impacts on water quality, wildlife, and the environment

  6. Promoting stable, prosperous farm families and communities

It is agriculture that follows the principles of nature rather than than the industrial agricultural principles that now dominate.

Community Supported Agriculture - CSA

“A CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. CSA’s focus is usually on a system of weekly delivery or pick-up of vegetables and fruit, sometimes dairy products and meat.”
